About This Call
The Center for Contemporary Arts is hosting its 2nd Annual Juried Art Show & Competition (CCAN), running November 6, 2018 – January 26, 2019. This national competition is open to all artists 21 years of age and over. Submitted artwork must not have been shown previously at the Center for Contemporary Arts.
Eligible media includes oil, watercolor, scratch board, acrylic, gouache, alkyd, tempera, mixed media, pastel, pencil, pen & ink, aquatint, bronze, wood, ceramic, photography, and digital art. Original 2 and 3-dimensional artwork only; no artwork over 3 years old may be shown. Framed art boundary measurement shall not exceed 200 inches, with no dimension exceeding 36 inches. Weight limit is 50 lbs. Submissions open September 1, 2018 and close October 15, 2018 with no exceptions. Entry fees are $35 per image; submit up to three images. All entry submissions must be done through CaFE. Accepted artwork must be hand delivered or shipped to the CCA no later than October 18, 2018 (220 Cypress St., Abilene, TX 79601). All shipping charges are at the artist's expense. Artwork should be framed, wired, and ready to hang; gallery-wrapped canvases are acceptable if sides are painted and the piece is wired and ready to hang. No glass except for pastel art; only plexi-glass glazing accepted for other artwork. No popcorn packing material allowed.
The juror is James Surls, a preeminent Texas artist whose work is in major museum collections. Awards include Best of Show ($1,500), Jurors Award ($750), Merit Award ($500), and 1st Place awards ($500 each) in categories including 2D Oil, Watercolor, Pastel/Dry Media, Acrylic, Mixed Media, Photography, Digital, Fiber, and 3D Sculpture. The CCA retains 20% of any artwork sold as a donation, with 80% remitted to the artist. Selected artists will be notified via email on October 18, 2018. Award winners will be notified November 3, 2018. The show opens to the public November 6, 2018, with a reception November 10, 2018 from 6:00pm-8:00pm, and closes January 26, 2019.
