About This Call
The City of Tustin Public Art Commission, in partnership with the City of Tustin Parks and Recreation Department, is seeking submissions from artists for a permanent outdoor sculpture installation at Centennial Park in Tustin, CA. One sculpture will be chosen for placement along the entry walkway, adjacent to a playground area. The selected artist or collaborative group will receive compensation between $10,000 to $20,000 for the artwork. Artists may submit up to two sculptures for consideration.
This call is open to Southern California's emerging and professional artists. Work must be suitable for outdoor installation in mediums such as stone, bronze, steel, or wood, and suitable for viewing by all ages. Sculptures must be structurally capable and designed to be secured by a steel plate to an existing ground level pedestal of 7' x 7' designed to support up to 1,250 lbs. and 3' to 10-12' in height. Work must be designed to withstand high winds, rain, extreme temperatures, climbing, and high traffic environments, with inherent resistance to theft, vandalism, and excessive maintenance costs. All entries must be existing works, completed prior to submission. Selected works must be installed with sufficient anchoring to prevent removal, tipping, breaking, or overturning due to wind or earthquake. An area on or near the artwork will be specified for a plaque containing the artist's name and title of the piece.
Selection will be made by the Public Art Commission with final decision-making authority held by the Tustin City Council. Selection criteria weight submittal of work meeting Call specifications (80%) and an installation plan, letter of interest with public art experience, resume with two references, artist statement, and images of completed work (20%). The artist is responsible for transportation to Centennial Park and ensuring proper preparation to meet pedestal specifications. Application requirements include a completed application form, professional resume (not to exceed two pages), sculpture installation plan, one-paragraph artist statement and brief biography, and four photographs (5x7 or larger) from each quadrant of the work submitted. Deadline for receipt of application materials is April 7, 2025.
