Celebrating the Art and Design of the Automobile

This call for visual art submissions is open to all artists ages 16 or older working in 2D media. Each artist may submit up to five pieces of artwork total. Film, video, and installation work will not be accepted.

All artwork must be original and completed within the past 3 years. Accepted artwork must be larger than 6" x 6" unframed, no larger than what can fit through a 30" x 84" doorway, and weigh less than 50 pounds. The artwork must depict in some positive manner the beauty and elegance of classic automobiles and the role art and design has in the development of automobiles from the past. Images of hot rods or custom modified cars, abandoned vehicles, fantasy or cartoons are discouraged. All original artwork chosen for exhibition must be submitted framed, wired (no sawtooth hangers), and ready for hanging. Salisbury House and Gardens reserves the right to refuse to exhibit works not accurately represented by the image submitted nor adequately prepared for hanging and display.

Submissions must include one to five pieces of artwork per application. The non-refundable entry fee is $10 per artwork, plus a $10 media fee for additional images. Artwork will be on display from July 31, 2013 through September 8, 2013 at Salisbury House. For each of three media categories (Drawing and Painting; Photography; Mixed Media), a jury will award First Place ($100) and Second Place ($75). One artwork will be awarded Best of Show ($75), determined by balloting from exhibition attendees. The Best of Show winner will be published on the cover of the event brochure the following year. Sale of exhibited artwork is encouraged; Salisbury House Foundation retains a 25% commission on any work sold. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs. Accepted artwork must be delivered or shipped between July 15-19, 2013. Artist notifications will be sent June 17, 2013.
