About This Call

The Prairie Village Arts Council, Johnson County Parks & Rec District, and Prairie Village Diversity Committee are accepting artwork submissions for the inaugural Celebrating Strength in Diversity exhibition. This exhibition focuses on the rich and diverse contribution BIPOC and LGBTQ artists make to the contemporary American art scene. The exhibition will showcase works by artists currently residing or working in Prairie Village and/or Johnson County, Kansas, and will be displayed at the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse gallery (9101 Nall Avenue) from January to March 2022.

Eligibility is open to BIPOC and LGBTQ artists, 18 years of age or older, who reside or work in Prairie Village and/or Johnson County, Kansas. Artists may submit up to five entries. Submissions must be original 2D artwork of any media, not more than 2 years old, not created in a class or under supervision of another artist, and not copied from published photos or photos taken by others without written permission. Artwork must not have been shown in any previous Prairie Village Arts Council exhibition. All selected 2D artwork must be D-ringed, wired, and ready for hanging, with a maximum size of 25 square feet total. No clip frames, saw tooth hangers, or string hangers are permitted.

Submissions deadline is Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Jurors will make initial selections by December 15, 2021, with finalists notified by December 29, 2021. Exhibition hanging is scheduled for January 2022 (before January 19), with a reception on Friday, February 11th. Work removal is scheduled for March 2022. Sales are encouraged but not required; items not for sale must be marked NFS. Artwork must be picked up between 9 a.m. and noon on the designated date, or a storage fee of $10 per day will apply. Artwork unclaimed 30 days after exhibition closing becomes property of the City of Prairie Village.
