About This Call
Celebrating American Craft - Southern Style (September 10 - November 2, 2018) is open to craft-based artists living and working in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. This inaugural exhibit showcases works created in clay, fiber arts, glass, wood, and metal. The exhibition is open to how Southern culture, food, music, nature, and other aspects of contemporary life in the South may appear in your work, ranging from traditional techniques like wood firing to work based on historical quilt patterns or the Southern landscape.
Jurors for 2018 are Terri Alea (Executive Director of TN Craft) and Mary Grissim (Curator Arts at the Airport, Nashville International Airport). Artists may submit up to 3 works per $20 entry fee. Selected works may be offered for sale, with the Gallery retaining a 30% commission. Works not for sale are also welcome. Sarratt Gallery is located in the main lobby of the Sarratt Student Center at Vanderbilt University, with hours 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Works selected must be shippable by ground via FedEx or UPS in good condition boxes with packing material for return shipping. Freight shipping is not accepted. Artists within a 100-mile radius may hand deliver work but must still provide boxes and packing materials for return shipping. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to the Gallery. The Gallery will pay for return shipping. Timeline: Jury process May 28 - June 8, 2018; artist notifications June 11, 2018; artist shipping August 20-30, 2018; work return November 5-9, 2018.
