About This Call

Celebrate the Gorge Photography Exhibition will consist of fine art photographs depicting the beauty and character of the Columbia River Gorge region of Oregon and Washington, including mountains, rivers, waterfalls, wildflowers, wildlife, scenic drives, farmlands, towns, and sports recreation. Applicants may submit up to 5 digital images and an artist's statement. Application fee is $25. Images shot both digitally and on film will be accepted. Manipulation of digital images is subject to restrictions: image elements may not be altered by removing or replacing aspects of the original scene. Enhancements or alterations are allowed only to achieve realistic color balance and sharpness. Black-and-white and hand-tinted images are acceptable. Stitched panoramas and High Dynamic Range (HDR) images are acceptable only if the combined parts are all made around the same time. A jury of three fine art professionals will select approximately 30-40 pieces. Artists will be notified via email of submission status on July 15, 2010. Each artist with selected work must arrange to print and frame those pieces as "ready to hang" framed prints, to be delivered to Hood River, OR by August 3, 2010.

Eligibility: Any resident of the United States or Canada is eligible to apply. Art must be original in concept and design. Images must be taken on location in the Columbia River Gorge region (defined as the geographic area from Mt. Hood to Mt. Adams and Troutdale, OR to Biggs, OR) and directly address beauty, lifestyle, or sport of this place. Artwork must be "new," meaning artwork previously displayed in the Columbia Gorge area is not eligible. Artwork, including frames, shall not exceed 60 inches in either direction. Minimum image size is 6 x 6 inches. Selected works must arrive professionally framed, wired and ready for display. Work must be for sale and priced with intent to sell. Sales split: 60% to the artist, 40% commission to Columbia Art Gallery.

Exhibition dates: August 6-29, 2010. Artwork delivery options: July 31-August 3, 2010. Pickup of unsold artwork: August 29-31, 2010. Awards: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Honorable Mention, and People's Choice. For questions about eligibility and requirements, contact Exhibition Curator Darryl Lloyd at [email protected].
