About This Call
O'Hanlon Center for the Arts (OHCA) is a 50+ year established creative haven located at the base of Mount Tamalpais in Mill Valley, California, surrounded by redwood and oak trees. The center occupies 3 acres in a quiet neighborhood one mile from downtown Mill Valley, with easy access to hiking and mountain biking trails on Mount Tam and convenient proximity to San Francisco and Oakland.
The 4-week residency runs June 27 to July 23, 2022, with daily access to the Center from 8am to 9pm. The program accepts 1-2 artists: one juried artist in the Gallery studio space and one invited artist with full access to the outside grounds and use of the Loft Lounge. Provided benefits include living quarters within 1/4 mile (room with restroom and kitchenette), individual work/studio space (Lower Gallery is 1290 sq ft), opportunity for informal critique by a Bay Area gallery owner, art exhibition/roundtable discussion, and discount at local art supply store. Artists are responsible for personal expenses, meals, supplies, materials, and transportation. Artists must offer a drop-in Studio Day to the public and attend a Donor Circle dinner. The residency concludes with a 3-day exhibition of all artists' work in the main gallery space and/or grounds, open to OHCA members and the wider Bay Area community.
Eligibility is open to all artists 18 and older (international applicants welcome). Application deadline is April 18, 2022, with final notification on May 4, 2022. Entry fee is $45. Required materials include: artist statement (1 page or 500 words or less describing work process and conceptual development), 10 images of works created within the last 3 years, resume (max 1500 characters), and three references with email, phone, relationship, and years known. Media restrictions apply: toxic materials and processes including encaustics are not permitted, and artists will not have access to the ceramics studio or kiln. Partners, spouses, family, and pets are not permitted during the residency.
