About This Call
Fourteen sculptures are sought for a one-year public display in Carbondale. Installation will take place during the weeks of May 23-June 2, 2016. Selected artists will receive a $750 honorarium to defray travel costs, be offered home hospitality, conduct an art walk for the public, be guests of honor at a cocktail event, and participate in an artist-only gathering to share techniques and experiences. A $1,000 award for "Best in Show" will also be given.
Artwork must be safe for pedestrians, of appropriate scale for street display, able to withstand high winds and substantial temperature changes, easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment, and freestanding but attachable to a marble base, steel base, or mounting plate provided by CPAC. There are no predispositions toward particular styles or materials, although some large and/or colorful pieces are needed. Artists must submit two views of one image marked "Proposal Image" (the piece being submitted for display) along with three additional images showing other examples of their work. The weight of the piece must be included. Any special installation requirements must be included in the application.
Notification of selections will be made by approximately February 22, 2016. For detailed installation requirements and questions, contact Laurie Lindberg at [email protected] or 970-510-1325. Steel plate sizes are 4'x4' and concrete base sizes are 48" in diameter.
