About This Call

Capturing the Beauty of Open Land is a plein air painting event sponsored by the Douglas Land Conservancy, a fundraiser dedicated to protecting the natural character of Douglas County and neighboring lands. Artists are invited to paint on beautiful, private conserved properties in southern Douglas County that are rarely open to the public. The event includes an orientation meeting on Monday evening, June 18, 2018, followed by painting on conserved lands June 18-22, 2018, and concludes with a VIP art show reception and sale at the White Pavilion in downtown Castle Rock, Colorado on June 22, 2018. The art show continues through June 24, 2018, with unsold paintings available for pickup that day.

Artists must submit up to five images representative of their typical work for jurying purposes. Subject matter should reflect the conserved lands. All work must be wired and ready to hang. A brief biography, price range, and website must be provided with submissions. The application fee is $35 (non-refundable). Artists will be notified of acceptance no later than April 20, 2018, with a deadline to accept the invitation by April 30, 2018.

All work submitted and displayed must be available for sale. The Douglas Land Conservancy will handle all sales with a 60/40 split (60% to the artist, 40% to the conservancy). Artists set their own prices. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. The Douglas Land Conservancy is not responsible for damage or loss of artwork.
