About This Call
The City of Santa Clarita is accepting applications from artists or teams of artists for a permanent sculpture or installation artwork for Fair Oaks Park in the Canyon Country community. The overarching theme is 'reflection' as in meditative, contemplative, and the calm that comes with being in nature.
The selection process begins with submission of application materials. The Artist Selection Committee will choose five finalists to present their proposed artwork. Each finalist will receive a $200 honorarium to support proposal creation. From the five finalists, one artist will be selected for installation and execution of their artwork. The proposed artwork should be original, site-specific in design, complementary to the surrounding area, and made with durable, low-maintenance materials that will withstand Santa Clarita's hot weather and elements. Artists are responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, transportation, and installation, with a $25,000 budget. The selected artwork is planned to be installed in fall 2018. The City will provide signage, mobile/web presence, and basic maintenance. Installed artwork must reach a minimum permanency of 25 years.
Eligibility: Artists 18 years of age or older may submit proposals individually or collaboratively. Submissions must include a resume, artist statement, 15-20 images of past work (video up to three, audio up to two), and a description list with budget and project descriptions for past work. Finalists will be notified by August 28, 2018. Application deadline is July 13, 2018.
