About This Call
Scottsdale Public Art seeks proposals for temporary artworks to be installed in or above the Arizona Canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront for Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light 2017. The event takes place February 23-26, 2017, with selected installations remaining on display until a date determined in April/May 2017. All local, national, and international artists, including individuals and collectives, are eligible to apply. The budget available is up to $60,000 USD.
Proposals should describe the initial design concept, potential materials, fabrication methods, and include a budget estimate. Submissions must include a proposal narrative and visual materials such as sketches, renderings, plan drawings, photos of models, or video narratives. Artists should review previous Canal Convergence projects and consider how their work will activate the Waterfront, create both daytime and nighttime presence, and relate to themes of water, art, light, and human interaction. Community participation and interactive artworks are encouraged. Projects must demonstrate a strong connection to the Sonoran Desert environment and water conservation. Artists proposing installations in the canal should have previous experience installing in water. Solar power is encouraged. The selected artist will be required to build and test a full-scale prototype in moving waters prior to installation.
Submissions are made through CaFE (callforentry.org) and must include 3-5 images. The submission deadline is July 10, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selection notifications will be sent via email by July 29, 2016. Questions should be directed to Andrea Teutli at [email protected].
