About This Call
Black Box Gallery is hosting a landscape and architecture juried group photo show. The exhibition explores the process and diversity of observation, interpretation and documentation of these two photographic genres, examining how compelling, significant and relevant photographic work engages the aesthetics, craft, tradition and concepts of landscape and architectural photography.
Juror Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery. He holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has served as a photography portfolio reviewer for Photolucida and juror for The Drawers Program at Blue Sky Gallery. Johnson has worked as an independent photography curator organizing shows by international photographers in Portland and has been a college photography instructor for 15 years. His work has been exhibited nationally and regionally at venues including The University of Oregon, Marylhurst University, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Reed College, Linfield College, and galleries in Brooklyn, Washington DC, and San Francisco.
Submissions must include 1-5 images. Entry fee is $35. Up to 5 applications are allowed per artist. The deadline is December 10, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The exhibition runs January 1-20, 2021 (open by appointment only due to COVID-19). Twenty-four photographs will be selected for exhibition at the gallery, and an additional 30 will be selected for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions. Selected photographers provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files for printing on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer using Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Exhibition prints are kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing of files will happen without prior consent. Artists may request that prints be for exhibition and promotion only, not for sale. The gallery will shred all prints after 5 years of exhibition in the flat files.
