About This Call

Brookfield Residential is seeking to commission unique permanent artwork installations for Alamar, a new master-planned residential community under construction in Avondale, Arizona. The first phase of the public art program will include commissions for four small community parks. Each commissioned artwork should create a sense of identity for its location and relate to the overall context of the Alamar community. Art installations should draw people in, invite engagement and interaction, and create memorable moments.

Themes identified as priorities for the art commissions include: Fun and Play; Education, Learning and Discovery; Living Connected (Neighbors, Families and Family Life); Organic Experiences (Sonoran Desert Plants, Animals and Landscape); Agriculture and Contemporary Agrarian Heritage; and Avondale, Arizona and Indigenous History. The budget for each of the four community parks is $25,000, inclusive of all costs associated with delivering and installing a complete work. Additional support with installation may be available on a case-by-case basis.

Artists must submit at least 10 and up to 20 images of past work, a professional resume outlining experience and accomplishments, and a letter of interest discussing preliminary concepts for the project. Invited artists will interview with the selection committee on August 6 and 7, 2019. Artists will be selected to develop preliminary proposals by mid-August 2019, with artwork designed, fabricated and installed by August 2020. Artists are encouraged to consider long-term maintenance needs and highly-durable, low-maintenance materials to ensure longevity of individual pieces.
