Call + Response, Annual Juried Exhibition

Call + Response is Kahilu Theatre's 5th Annual Juried Show, running March 12–April 19, 2020 at Kahilu Theatre Galleries. This exhibition encourages artists to call attention to urgent issues or respond to the most pressing concerns of our time and place. Artists are encouraged to submit work that challenges established paradigms, asserts bold perspectives on current events, or seeks to make visible latent yet vital networks.

Eligibility: Open to 2D, 3D, and video works completed since January 1st, 2016 by artists currently residing in the State of Hawai'i. Work executed under classroom/educational guidance or external supervision is not eligible. Artwork must be ready for installation and professionally presented (2D must be framed or mounted with hanging hardware; 3D work must have clear installation instructions). Entry fee is $35.00 per entry; up to five works per artist. Submissions accepted through February 16, 2020.

Awards: First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100. Juror: Healoha Johnston, Curator at the Smithsonian Institution Asian Pacific American Center. Notification of accepted works: February 24, 2020. Opening Reception: March 12, 5–7:00 pm. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery and must provide a prepaid return shipping label, UPS or FedEx account number, or credit card information for return shipping.
