Call for Sculpture - Percival Plinth Project 2021

The City of Olympia is seeking up to 16 loaned sculptures from Washington and Oregon state artists for temporary display of up to one year on Percival Landing in Olympia, WA. Selected artists are eligible for consideration for the Peoples' Prize purchase award, selected by public vote, with one sculpture to be purchased and added to the City's public art collection. Each sculpture submitted must be available for exhibition June 2021-June 2022.

Artists may submit up to two entries, with three to five slides each. Sculptures must be made of durable materials suitable for exterior exhibition, including bronze, aluminum, steel, stone, and concrete. Work must be maintenance-free, graffiti resistant, and not present a safety risk to the public. Maximum weight is 1000 lbs with a center of gravity within 9" of the center of base plate and within 42" of the top of the base plate. Artists must expect that sculptures may be climbed on or marked during exhibition. Artwork that includes advertising, logos, or is political, religious, or sexual in nature will not be considered. Artists must be Washington or Oregon state sculptors, 18 years of age or older, and may not submit works previously exhibited on the Percival Plinths.

Selected artists will receive a $700 honorarium for each loaned sculpture. Up to $10,000 will be awarded for the Peoples' Prize purchase. Work on display can be available for sale with no commission taken by the City. Installation takes place in June 2021. Artists are responsible for shipping works to and from the exhibit location and for securing their sculpture to a provided stainless steel plate with a minimum of 3 points of contact. The City provides property insurance for all works during exhibition and will provide a foot pump lift and limited staff support for installation. Artists selected for exhibition must possess a City of Olympia Business license. Entry deadline: February 22, 2021.
