About This Call
The Town of Danville is seeking professional bronze artists or sculptors to design an acorn sculpture for a permanent public art exhibit called "Acorns of the Old Oak." The exhibit will consist of small bronze, three-dimensional acorn sculptures placed at town-owned facilities and historic building sites in Downtown Danville, serving as a homage to Danville's iconic Old Oak Tree, a symbol of stability and strength.
The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend to design an acorn mold in digital and physical form. The artist is responsible for using their own materials and studio space to create the design, informing the Town how the acorns will be fabricated, connecting the Town to the fabricator for payment, and arranging delivery. The Town will be responsible for payment of the bronze acorns and installation of the artwork. The selected artist must grant all rights of the acorn design to the Town of Danville for any future purposes.
Eligibility is open to professional artists or art teams residing in the nine San Francisco Bay Area Counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma) who have successfully managed and completed at least one publicly funded art commission on schedule and within budget. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, current resume, short narrative of the proposed work, examples of previous bronze work or sculptures (1-3 images), contact information for two references from completed commissions, project timeline, and cost estimate. An Artist Selection Panel will review submissions and conduct interviews with finalists. Selected artists must provide an illustration and report of proposed pieces for committee approval. Artworks must be appropriate for all audiences and cannot contain advertising, partisan politics, sexual, or religious content. The application deadline is April 4, 2025.
