About This Call
The Town of Castle Rock Public Art Commission invites artists to submit two-dimensional designs or artwork to be featured on a giant Adirondack chair in Festival Park, the heart of Downtown Castle Rock. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 award. The ideal design or artwork will extend a warm welcome to locals and visitors, embody the spirit of Castle Rock, and foster a strong sense of community. The design could feature anything from the Rock to welcoming taglines and should pay noticeable tribute to the Town of Castle Rock. The artwork is expected to be on display on the chair in summer 2024.
The selected artwork will be digitized, if not already, and placed on a wooden, paneled chair through vinyl application. The chair will sit along the Perry Street sidewalk, overlooking the park just south of the pavilions. The content of the artwork should relate well to the surroundings and be attractive from both distance and close-up views. Designs must not contain advertisements for any brand, business, product, or viewpoint. Content deemed sensitive will not be permitted, including drugs/alcohol, nudity, and violence.
A selection team will review all submissions based on homage to Castle Rock, artistic excellence, technical competence, and suitability for the site. The Town reserves the right to reject any and all proposals submitted. Any selected artist must be available in June 2024 to collaborate on the final design with the producer/installer if necessary. The selected artist will enter into an agreement with the Town of Castle Rock concerning terms of use, including a release of ownership. Preference will be granted first to artists residing in Castle Rock, then Douglas County, followed by general consideration.
