About This Call

Silverwood Park is seeking proposals for consideration for the 2023 gallery season in the Silverwood Park Gallery and Annex Gallery in the Visitor's Center.

Silverwood Park, a Three Rivers Park District facility located in St. Anthony, MN, is devoted to the integration of artistic creation and nature-based experiences. The park features Silver Lake, restored prairie, and mature oak forests. The main visitor's center includes a gallery, café/coffee shop, sales gallery, and large event hall. Other amenities include education facilities, picnic sites, fishing opportunities, and paved trails. The Silverwood Park Gallery is 1,300 square feet with polished concrete floors, salvaged oak, high-beamed ceiling, natural light, and an intimate fireplace. The main gallery is an open space with large windows, limited wall space, and uses 8 movable displays that create 32 surfaces approximately 4 by 6 feet. Gallery provides 15 pedestals with a 15 by 15 inch display surface (5 are 24 inches tall, 5 are 30 inches, and 5 are 36 inches; 5 pedestals at 36 inches tall can be fitted with vitrines). The annex gallery offers approximately 80 feet of wall space spanning two spaces.

Artists 18 years of age or older who primarily live or work in the Midwest are invited to submit proposals individually or collaboratively. Materials used should be appropriate to an indoor environment. Both 2D and 3D work are accepted, however, size and space limitations apply. The Walker Hanging System is used on the walls and panels. Non-permanent and non-damaging materials or products are permissible on walls, panels, floors, windows, and beams. Silverwood will select proposals based on artistic quality, capability, and impact as evidenced by representation of past work and other supporting materials. Ideal proposals will support the mission of Silverwood Park and use art as a vehicle for inspiration, exploration, and connection to the natural world.

Duration of installation is approximately 7-8 weeks and in some cases, 1 month. Work is to be continuously displayed during this time. Artists are responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, insurance, transportation, installation, and de-installation. Artists receive a small stipend. Costs related to transport and installation of the work will be the sole responsibility of the artist unless otherwise stipulated. Silverwood's exhibition coordinator will install the work or work with the artist to install it on a case-by-case basis. Silverwood will provide signage, promotional materials, and opening reception. Silverwood Park retains responsibility for advertisement of work through listing in an events calendar, onsite fliers, e-card, and postcards as well as through the Three Rivers Park District website, social media sites, and email. Art can be for sale, and Silverwood Park retains 30% of the sale price. Any sold artwork will remain on display at the park as per contract signed between the artist and Silverwood. Silverwood Park is not liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged work, however, Silverwood handles incidents on a case-by-case basis and compensates the artist for loss or damage.

Submissions must include: resume (2 page max), artist statement (1 page max), proposal (proposals may be for existing work, site-specific installations, or new projects; should be clear and specific with optional rendering/drawing/model), 10 work samples (individual works, details, and installation shots accepted; up to 3 video links accepted), and image info (name, title, materials, dimensions, year completed, and optional description for each image). Videos (optional) can be shared as links to a website, YouTube, or similar video sharing platform. Deadline: March 1, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification by email of application status by April 15, 2022. For further information, contact Eileen Cohen at [email protected] or 763-694-2091.
