About This Call
Silverwood Park is seeking proposals for consideration for the 2019 and 2020 gallery season in the Silverwood Park Gallery and Annex Gallery in the Visitor's Center. Deadline: October 31, 2018.
Silverwood Park, a Three Rivers Park District facility located in St. Anthony, MN, is devoted to the integration of artistic creation and nature-based experiences. The park receives over 275,000 guests annually and spans 120 acres in the Twin Cities area, offering views of Silver Lake, restored prairie, and mature oak forests. The main visitor's center includes a gallery, café/coffee shop, gift shop, and large event hall. The Silverwood Park Gallery is 1,300 square feet with polished concrete floors, site-specific salvaged oak, high-beamed ceiling, and intimate fireplace seating. Display options include 8 movable displays creating 32 surfaces approximately 4 by 6 feet, 15 pedestals with 15 by 15 inch display surfaces (five at 24 inches tall, five at 30 inches, five at 36 inches), 5 pedestals with vitrines, 14 feet of wall space inside the gallery, 21 feet across from the reception desk, and ceiling beams for suspended work.
Artists 18 years of age or older who primarily live or work in the Midwest are invited to submit proposals individually or collaboratively. Silverwood will select proposals based on artistic quality, capability, and impact as evidenced by representation of past work and supporting materials. Ideal proposals support the mission of Silverwood Park and use art as a vehicle for inspiration, exploration, and connection to the natural world. Materials used should be appropriate to an indoor environment. 2D and 3D work is accepted, however, size and space limitations apply. Non-permanent and non-damaging materials or products may be used on walls, panels, floors, windows, and ceiling. Installation duration is approximately 7-8 weeks, or in some cases, 1 month. Artists are responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, insurance, transportation, installation, and de-installation. Silverwood's exhibition coordinator will install the work or work with the artist to install it on a case-by-case basis. Silverwood will provide signage and may provide a mobile audio/web stop at the park's discretion. Art can be for sale with Silverwood Park retaining 25% of the sale price; artwork will remain on display at the park as per contract. Silverwood Park is not liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged work, but handles incidents on a case-by-case basis.
Submissions must include: resume (2 page max), artist statement (1 page max), proposal (1 page max, clear and specific), 10 images (labeled with last name, first initial, and number), and image information (name, title, materials, dimensions, year completed, and optional description). An informational session will be held September 18, 2018 from 6-7 pm. Artist notification will occur by December 3, 2018. For further information, contact Eileen Cohen at [email protected] or 763-694-2091.
