Call for Artists: UL Lafayette Madison Hall Public Art Commission

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking a professional artist or artist team to create a public art commission for Madison Hall, a building completed in 1957 that serves as a vital academic space for engineering and geology. The commission will include both an interior and exterior artwork created by a single artist or artist team to support a cohesive artistic vision. The interior component will be placed in the building's main lobby, a highly visible and symbolic space serving as a central hub for students and visitors. The exterior component will be located near the new entrance of Madison Hall and should be visually striking, welcoming, and reflective of the same values and themes as the interior piece, celebrating UL Lafayette's engineering legacy and future.

Applicants must demonstrate at least five years of professional visual art experience and submit a résumé, letter of interest (no more than one page), three references with current contact details, and up to 10 images of past commissions or large-scale installations completed within the last 10 years. Videos (up to 3) are optional. Images must include title, medium, dimensions, project budget in US dollars, year completed, location, and description. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact.

This call is open to professional artists 18 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identification, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical ability. The budget is $115,000 (all-inclusive). Entry deadline: November 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
