Call for Artists: Northwestern State University Alost Hall

Alost Hall is a newly constructed, three-story, 73,149-square-foot academic building on Northwestern State University's Natchitoches campus. The facility houses the Department of English, Languages, and Cultural Studies; the Department of Mathematics; and the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health. The building includes modern classrooms, simulation labs, collaboration spaces, a café, an auditorium, and a multi-purpose area that supports community engagement.

The selection committee seeks an artwork that reflects Northwestern State University's campus history and regional identity while emphasizing the foundational role of general education in every student's academic journey. The artwork should speak to the shared experience of learning and growth that begins in Alost Hall rather than centering on a single discipline. The project budget is $264,000 (all-inclusive).

Applicants must be professional artists 18 and over with at least five years of professional visual art experience. A complete application must include a résumé, a letter of interest (no more than one page), references with names and contact details of three people you have previously partnered with or worked with, and up to 10 images of past commissions or large-scale installations demonstrating your ability to create at this scale. Images must include title, medium, dimensions, project budget in US dollars, year completed, location, and description. Up to 3 videos are optional. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact. Examples of work submitted must be original, recently completed artwork within the last 10 years.
