Call for 2025 Exhibition Proposals

Kahilu Exhibits, located in the galleries at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea (Kamuela) on Hawaiʻi Island, is seeking exhibition proposals for the 2025 calendar year. As many as eight proposals will be selected. Submissions from solo artists, artist groups and collectives, and curators are welcome. Exhibitions featuring all media are encouraged, including painting, drawing, photography, fibers, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, video, sound art, installation, new media, fashion, and traditional crafts.

Kahilu's Simperman Gallery is a large open space with two 38-foot-long exhibition walls stretching 10 feet tall, suitable for large-scale artworks, hanging installations, and large sculptures. Kahilu's Suli T. Go Gallery offers a more intimate exhibition experience with 6-7 walls of various sizes, suitable for smaller wall-mounted artworks and experimental installations. Proposals can be made for use of both galleries or focus on one gallery in particular. Kahilu's staff offers museum-quality support in preparation of exhibition materials, designing layouts, and creating special displays. Exhibitions featuring works by artists on Hawaiʻi Island are strongly encouraged, though exhibitions from off-island and international artists are welcome.

Possible exhibition dates are: February 20 – April 6, 2025; June 5 – July 27, 2025; August 7 – September 14, 2025; September 25 – November 2, 2025; and November 13, 2025 – January 4, 2026. Artists will receive 60% from all art sales (unless otherwise agreed upon). Kahilu will create all signage, labels, and special display items for accepted proposals and will be responsible for installing all accepted artworks (unless otherwise agreed upon). Kahilu cannot commit to helping with shipping or travel costs. Exhibitions will be selected in October 2024. All applications and artwork will remain on file for future consideration. No stipend or honorarium for selected exhibitions can be offered at this time. All artists 18 years of age or older are invited to submit proposals. Applicants must submit an artist statement (1000 characters or shorter), artist CV or resume, artist biography (1000 characters or shorter), detailed exhibition proposal, and 10-20 examples of artwork. Entry fee is $40.00.
