About This Call

Arts Benicia, a non-profit art center in Benicia, CA, invites California-based printmakers to submit artwork for California Printmakers: Tradition and Innovation. The exhibition runs July 22 – August 27, 2023. The goal is to highlight and exhibit the best in recent California printmaking and to feature a wide range of printmaking techniques, from traditional processes to more experimental methods.

All fine art printmaking mediums are eligible, including woodcut, intaglio, lithography, silkscreen, monotype, mixed media fine art prints, relief, planographic, and original digital media. Drawings, photographs, offset reproductions, or reproductions of artwork originally produced in another medium will not be considered. Artwork must have been completed in the past three years. 2D work may not exceed 48" in width or 72" in height, including the frame. There is a 35-pound weight limit for any hanging work.

Entry deadline is May 12, 2023 at 10:59 PM PDT. Entry fee is $45 for non-members or $35 for Arts Benicia members for up to 3 artworks; an additional $5 fee is required for each additional entry, up to a maximum of 6 artworks per application. Artists may submit 3 to 6 images. Jurors are Yuzo Nakano, Artistic Director Emeritus and Co-founder of Kala Art Institute, and Kazuko Watanabe, contemporary printmaker and educator. Jurying takes place May 13-20, 2023, with artists notified by May 25. Prizes include $500 for Juror's choice, $250 for First honorable mention, and $150 for Second honorable mention. Shipped artwork must be received by July 1; hand-delivered work is received July 6-7, 1-4 pm. Public reception is Saturday, July 22, 4-6 pm. In-person artwork pick-up is August 29, 1-4 pm, with shipped artwork return August 29 – September 1, 2023. Upon sale, artists receive 60% of the sale price.
