California National Parks: Stories of Water

The Wildling Museum of Art and Nature announces its third juried exhibition, "California National Parks: Stories of Water," a showcase of fine art inspired by the nine National Parks located within California: Channel Islands, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Lassen Volcanic, Pinnacles, Redwoods, and Yosemite. The exhibition runs September 23, 2023 – February 19, 2024 at the Wildling Museum, 1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang, CA 93463. An opening reception will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 3 – 5 p.m., where cash prizes will be awarded. The exhibition will be juried by Nathan Vonk, owner of Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery in Santa Barbara, California.

The exhibition will only feature artworks made within or of the nine listed National Parks. The goal is to bring awareness to California's national parks and the various forms of water found in them, including lakes, waterfalls, dew, rain, and fog. Impacts of a lack of water are also desired, as persistent drought is a major issue in California. Open to all artists 18 years or older working in any wall-hung media. Work must be original, not exceed 48 inches in any dimension including frame, and must be in suitable condition for hanging. Artists may submit 1-3 digital images online at www.callforentry.org. Entry fee is $35 for the first image and $20 for each additional image. Jurying is blind, and no more than two entries from any one artist will be accepted.

Artists will be notified of acceptance or rejection by August 3, 2023. Accepted work must be delivered August 28 – September 7, 2023 (advance confirmation required) ready to hang with proper hanging hardware. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit. Three cash awards will be announced at the opening: First prize $2,500, Second prize $1,000, Third prize $500. Revenue from sales will be distributed 60% to the artist, 40% to the Wildling. Artists are responsible for insuring their own pieces during transit and for all shipping costs. The Wildling will insure artworks for the sales price while on premises. Works mailed to the Wildling must arrive by Friday, September 1, 2023 with a prepaid return label. Pickup of artworks is February 20 – 25, 2024 (advance confirmation required).
