About This Call
The California Community Foundation awards fellowships to support emerging and mid-career visual artists in Los Angeles County. The foundation recognizes the arts as a vehicle for community building and civic engagement, and is committed to supporting individual artists who help connect communities, bridge cultural barriers, and celebrate the rich diversity of Los Angeles County.
Ten fellowships of $20,000 each are awarded to mid-career visual artists (defined as having seven or more years of active professional experience) and four fellowships of $15,000 each are awarded to emerging artists (up to seven years of professional experience). All applicants must reside full-time in Los Angeles County (five years prior for mid-career artists, three years prior for emerging artists) and work in visual arts including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, experimental film and video, interdisciplinary/mixed media, or performance art in which visual art is a significant and integral component. Artists whose primary practice is performing or media arts are not eligible. Students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees and California Community Foundation employees and their immediate family members are not eligible. Recipients of previous fellowships in the same category are not eligible. Awards are based on artistic quality and merit, past artistic accomplishments, impact of the fellowship on the artist's career, work representative of Los Angeles' diverse communities, and the artist's contribution to the vitality of Los Angeles. Fellowship recipients also receive the Business of Art Retreat produced by the Center for Cultural Innovation. Awards will be announced the last week of June 2010. Applicants must submit six images as work samples.
