About This Call
The California Community Foundation offers fellowships to support visual artists in Los Angeles County. The foundation has recognized and supported the Southern California arts community for more than 90 years, viewing the arts as a vehicle for community building and civic engagement.
The program awards ten fellowships of $20,000 each to mid-career visual artists and four fellowships of $15,000 each to emerging artists. Mid-career artists must have seven or more years of active professional experience and have resided full-time in Los Angeles County for at least five years prior to the application deadline. Emerging artists must have up to seven years of professional experience and have resided full-time in Los Angeles County for at least three years prior to the deadline. Both categories must be working in visual arts including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, experimental film and video, interdisciplinary/mixed media, or performance art in which visual art is a significant and integral component. Students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees and California Community Foundation employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.
Awards are based on artistic quality and merit, work representative of Los Angeles' diverse communities, past accomplishments, and the fellowship's impact on stimulating the artist's ability to foster civic engagement. Recipients also receive the Business of Art Boot Camp produced by the Center for Cultural Innovation. A multidisciplinary selection panel made up of distinguished artists and professionals from the Los Angeles arts community reviews applications. Awards will be announced on or before Friday, June 26, 2009. Contact Program Assistant Richard Ruiz at [email protected] or (213) 413-4130 for more information.
