CAL National 2021

CAL National 2021 is a national exhibition presented by the Conroe Art League, now in its sixth year. The exhibition features $4,500 in prizes across four categories: Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media/3D, and Photography, with recognition in each category plus an overall Best of Show award. Last year received nearly 700 entries from 40 states. The 2021 exhibition is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts as part of their Artistic Enrichment in American Communities (AEAC) program.

The month-long exhibition (March 3 – April 1, 2021) will feature a collaborative mural creation led by internationally recognized wildlife artist Vickie McMillan Hayes, with hands-on participation from artists and non-artists. The finished mural will be donated to a local non-profit at the end of the exhibit. The exhibition takes place alongside other arts events in Historic Downtown Conroe, including the Young Texas Artists Classical Music Competition and performances from member organizations of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance featuring literature, theatre, chorale, dance, jazz and other arts.

Eligibility: Open nationally to all visual artists. Work must have been completed since January 1, 2017, and work completed under classroom/educational guidance is not eligible. Artists may submit up to 6 images. Entry fee is $35 for the first image and $15 for each additional image. An artist statement of 250-1,000 words is required. All 2D work must be framed or gallery wrapped with painted edges. Maximum size is 48" x 48" including frame for 2D work (not to exceed 25 lbs). Maximum size for 3D work is 30"W x 30"D x 48"H (not to exceed 40 lbs). Accepted work must be available for exhibition during the entire show period. In-person deliveries accepted February 11-25, 2021, Tuesday-Saturday 10:30 am-5:30 pm at 127 Simonton Street, Conroe, Texas 77301. Shipped deliveries should arrive between February 11-25, 2021 with prepaid return labels. Notification of accepted artwork: January 22, 2021. Reception and recognitions announced: March 20, 2021. Artwork pickup/return: April 2-3, 2021. Gallery commission on sales is 20%.
