Cabinets of Curiosity

The Longmont Council for the Arts' Muse Gallery invites submissions for Cabinets of Curiosity, a call for assemblage pieces in 3-D container/box form inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell. Submissions should be boxes, cabinets, guitar cases, or similar containers that tell a story, narrative, or theme. Open to all media including jewelry, sculpture, metal, ceramics, and more.

Two categories are available: Cabinet category (must use a cabinet or container with a door that viewers can open and close) and Container category (must be a pre-existing object that can be altered with imagery and objects added, remaining open but not to be touched by viewers). Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 pieces. Submit 1-3 digital images of your work. Images must be cropped, excluding framing and background, and represent the work exactly. If submitting detail images, indicate them as such. All entries must include dimensions, price, and a complete list of materials used. Work will be juried by digital images, with cash awards for the top three winners once art is received by the gallery.

Art must be received by the gallery the week of October 27-31, 2014. The exhibition runs November 7 – December 23, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, November 14, 2014. Artists are responsible for delivering or shipping art to and from the gallery. All submitted art must be available for exhibition; if a piece sells prior to acceptance notification, the artist must notify the Muse immediately with no substitutions allowed. The gallery takes a 40% commission on sales.
