About This Call
A magnificent Live Oak Tree stands in front of a large ranch house outside of Stonewall, Texas. The tree has witnessed the movements and lives of Native Americans and German Settlers. A couple of years ago a thunderstorm swept across the ranch, bringing high winds that caused a large portion of the ancient tree to break and fall.
The tree is located on the Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park, in front of the Texas White House – President Lyndon Johnson's home when not in Washington. The tree has hosted dignitaries and councilors under its branches and was given the title "The Cabinet Oak" because President Johnson would hold cabinet meetings in its shade. The Texas White House is in need of repair and The Park is planning the creation of an onsite Artist in Residence program.
Artists will be selected based on the uniqueness and quality of their previous work, not on any specific theme or subject. Selected artists will be invited to work with a piece of this historic oak, bringing their unique vision and interpretation to the project. The project seeks to represent a wide range of artistic practices, genres, techniques, and media. Artists regardless of location, background, genre, technique, and media are invited to apply with the understanding that portions of the wood will be physically or graphically incorporated into the work.
Application Requirements: Provide a resume of 300 words or less, up to ten photos of prior work, and accept the COP Artist's Agreement. Optionally, share thoughts about your concept and techniques, limited to 200 words. An application fee is required. Event dates: 11/12/22.
