About This Call
Cabbagetown BIA and the City of Toronto seek an Indigenous artist based in Canada to create a permanent mural on the south-facing No Frills wall at Spruce Street and Parliament Street in Toronto. The mural will be integrated around existing business signage, run from the corner along the wall and receive an anti-graffiti coating. The work should connect Cabbagetown and Toronto to Indigenous roots, honour Indigenous history in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, and provide a welcoming placemaking and wayfinding element toward the Spruce Street parkette. Materials and quality must be durable and suitable for extreme weather, vandalism and traffic. It will be installed alongside a separately commissioned sculpture, and the selected mural artist must be open to collaboration on shared themes or a cohesive visual identity.
