By the Light of Day

This art exhibition invites artists to enter Plein Air artwork—artwork created by the light of day. All submissions must be done in the Plein Air style of painting, creating the piece outdoors in the open air. Plein Air painting is the practice of painting landscape pictures out-of-doors, allowing artists to capture the emotional and sensory dimensions of a particular landscape at a particular moment in time. It expresses a spirit of spontaneity and truth to personal impulse within art. Decisions have to be made quickly, therefore painting reactions are more intuitive.

Submission fees are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. A maximum of 3 works may be submitted. Art will be displayed at West Windsor Arts and online as determined by WWAC. There is no size limitation for art, however, size will be taken into consideration by the juror. All artworks entered must include finished edges or be framed. All pieces should be labeled with the artist's name and the title of the artwork. Typically all work must be wired across the back with picture hanging wire, approximately 1/3 from top of frame. Saw-tooth hooks, ribbon, cardboard, or press board frames will not be accepted.

Eligibility is open to artists over 18 years of age. Art must be created in the Plein Air method of working on location. Art must be in original form for the medium being submitted; giclée or other reproductions of original work will not be accepted, unless the original is a photograph/print. Art to be considered includes paintings and drawings using acrylic, oils, watercolor, pastel, and pencil. Applicants must provide a bio focusing on career highlights, an artist statement for each work entered (including why you created this work, your process, or something specific to the piece), and the location and approximate time of year for each artwork. The deadline to enter is Tuesday, June 7, 2022, 11:59pm Mountain Time. Jury dates are the week of June 8-12, with accepted/declined emails sent the week of June 13-17. Drop-off dates for accepted art are July 5-8. The opening reception is July 15, with the show running July 12 to August 27. Jurors are Lori Langsner and Bob Barish.
