About This Call
The Art in Public Places program seeks artwork for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources in Socorro. The objective is to curate the facility with artwork that thematically and conceptually reflects the work done at the Bureau, which encompasses research, mapping geologic infrastructure, geological data, mineral and energy resources, and geohydrology, as well as public education and outreach through college teaching and advising, a Mineral Museum, and teacher- and student-training programs.
All media in all genres suitable for both interior and exterior display will be considered for purchase. Artwork must be durable, permanent, low-maintenance and in compliance with ADA guidelines upon installation. The project is open to artists who reside in New Mexico and galleries located in New Mexico. Galleries may submit qualifications on behalf of any artist represented by the gallery, regardless of the artist's residency. Project budget ranges from $1,000 to $20,000, all-inclusive. Purchase contracts will be limited to a $1,000 minimum for each piece. The all-inclusive price covers materials, labor, insurance, taxes, commissions, fees, delivery, all installation costs, travel, museum quality framing under Plexiglas, security-hangers, pedestals/bases for three-dimensional works, Plexiglas bonnets for small three-dimensional works, project plaques, and written and professional photographic documentation.
Submission deadline is July 23, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants must submit up to three images of previously completed work currently available for purchase ranging from $1,000-$20,000, a current resume or curriculum vitae, and an artist's statement (2000 character limit). A Selection Committee from the Bureau of Geology will select artwork based on professional qualifications, ability to create art of unique vision and highest caliber, developed and consistent style, and artistic merit and superior craftsmanship. Notification of finalists is July 24, 2018, with notification of purchases in August 2018. Artwork installation is scheduled for October 2018 through October 2019. Payment will be made upon completion of contract terms and a site visit by an Art in Public Places staff person to verify requirements have been met.
