About This Call
Bunnell Street Arts Center, situated on Indigenous lands within the tribal boundaries of the Nichiłtana, Ninilchik Village Tribe, invites applications from Alaska artists for its Visual Arts Exhibits program for the 2026-2027 seasons. The center's mission is to spark artistic inquiry, innovation and equity to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of Alaska. A community tradition since 1991, the Visual Arts Exhibits program promotes education and community engagement, nurtures Alaska's artists, and elevates artistic innovation and excellence.
Applications are open to Alaska artists working in any media. Formats may include solo, group, and interdisciplinary shows. Work need not be for sale. The $25 application fee includes a needs-based waiver option available upon request to [email protected]. Applications should include an artist statement, exhibit proposal or statement of intent, artist resume, and 5 images of recent work representing the proposed exhibit. Bunnell seeks exhibitions that value innovation, excellence of craftsmanship, community engagement, relationship-building and fiscal sustainability. The strongest applications show a clear and unified body of work with clearly represented and described artist intentions and a specific exhibit proposal that resonates with Bunnell's mission and values.
Exhibiting artists are selected by an advisory committee led by Bunnell's Artistic Director and composed of artists, community members, and Bunnell staff and board. Artists are notified by December 31st each year. Exhibits run for one month and open on "First Friday" with a public reception and artist talk. Exhibiting artists receive a minimum $150 honorarium. If artwork is for sale, work is sold at a 60% artist / 40% Bunnell split and paid by the 15th of the month following the sale. Shows and artist talks are shared online through Bunnell's website, online store, and social media platforms. Artwork for sale or exhibit that can be strongly identified as belonging to a distinct culture or cultural tradition must be made by an artist that belongs or identifies as belonging to that culture.
