Bunnell Street Arts Center: Old Town Public Art

Homer Alaska's Old Town is one block south of the Sterling Highway overlooking Kachemak Bay and the Kenai Mountains. Bishops Beach, located in Old Town, was an historic mooring for boats during Homer's homesteading days. Today, people still comb the beach for coal to heat their homes. The beach is a recreational nexus with a picnic shelter, grills, restroom facilities and miles of beach access. Bishops Beach is one of Alaska's most accessible beaches and is adjacent to the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center and the Beluga Slough trailhead. It is within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and art galleries in historic Old Town Homer.

Bunnell Street Arts Center will award up to $15,000 for a work of public art, either permanent or ephemeral. Applicants must submit a one page statement of intent, one page resume, a materials budget and five work samples by December 1, 2013. Finalists will be asked to submit a drawing of their proposed work. The event dates are May 1, 2014 through September 1, 2014. Work samples may include images, audio, or video (up to 5 of each format).
