About This Call
Bullseye Glass Company, founded in 1974, operates as a factory for artists with locations in Portland, Oregon, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Bay Area, and New York. The company invites artists to collaborate, experiment, and push the boundaries of kiln-glass material. Established artists such as Klaus Moje, Narcissus Quagliata, Richard Whiteley, and Dante Marioni have developed new formal, color, or conceptual languages for their work at Bullseye. Artists from other media including Jun Kaneko, Deborah Horrell, Munson Hunt, and Judy Tuwaletstiwa have translated their ideas into kilnformed glass through collaborations with the company.
Bullseye offers two types of residencies. Resource Center residencies at locations in Santa Fe, the Bay Area, and New York provide extended access (up to three months) to facilities and a materials budget for artists and artist groups who are current residents of the region. Bullseye Studio residencies at the Portland factory are open to regional, national, and international artists and artist groups for concentrated project-based explorations lasting 2-4 weeks. The Portland facility provides access to facilities, a materials budget, and housing if required. Artists are responsible for food, travel, and other expenses. Established and emerging artists from all disciplines are eligible; artists with little to no experience with kiln-glass are encouraged to apply but may be asked to attend a workshop in advance.
Artists are not required to finish a project during their residency but will share their work, developments, and research with the Bullseye community through notes, blog posts, images, public lectures, studio visits, and various events. A panel comprised of Bullseye staff, fellow artists, and art professionals selects 8 artists or artist groups for residencies each year. Proposals must be compatible with available studio tools and space and accommodate the multi-use nature of Resource Centers and Bullseye's mission. Entry fee: $15.00. Work sample requirements: 10-12 images, 0-1 audio file, 0-2 video files. Applications accepted biannually for Winter/Spring (January 1-May 31) and Summer/Fall (June 1-December 31) openings.
