About This Call
Bullseye Glass Co. was founded in 1974 and operates as a factory for artists. The company invites artists to collaborate, experiment, and push the boundaries of kiln-glass material. Established glass artists such as Klaus Moje, Narcissus Quagliata, Richard Whiteley, and Dante Marioni have developed new formal, color, or conceptual languages for their work at Bullseye. Artists from other media including Jun Kaneko, Deborah Horrell, Munson Hunt, and Judy Tuwaletstiwa have translated their ideas into kilnformed glass through collaborations with Bullseye.
Bullseye offers two types of residencies. RC Residencies at Resource Centers in Santa Fe, the Bay Area, and New York are open to regional artists and artist groups and provide extended (up to three months) access to facilities and a materials budget. Factory Residencies at the Portland studio are open to regional, national, and international artists and artist groups, ranging from 2-4 weeks for concentrated project-based explorations. Bullseye provides access to facilities, a materials budget, and housing if required for Factory Residencies. Artists are responsible for food, travel, and other expenses.
Artists are not required to finish a project during their residency but will share their work, developments, and research with the Bullseye community through notes, blog posts, images, public lectures, studio visits, and various events. A panel comprised of Bullseye staff, fellow artists, and art professionals chooses 8 artists or artist groups for residencies each year. Established and emerging artists from all disciplines are eligible. Artists with little to no experience with kiln-glass are encouraged to apply but may be asked to attend a workshop in advance. Resource Center Residencies are available to current residents of the region. Accommodations are not available at Resource Centers. Accommodations are available based on need at the Portland facility. Residents are not allowed to sleep overnight in the studios. Entry fee is $15.00. Applicants must submit 10-12 images, up to 1 audio file, and up to 2 video files. The deadline for applications for residencies taking place between July and December is March 1st.
