About This Call
The Built Environments exhibition will examine constructed artistic interventions both inside and outside of the gallery space, where spatial relations and the routine materials of architecture and building are exploded through artistic experimentation. The exhibition runs February 23 – April 4, 2019. This open call broadens the reach and scope of the project and introduces new voices into the conversation alongside confirmed anchor artists: Lead Pencil Studio, Bessma Khalaf, Mary Anne Kluth, Cybele Lyle, Macro Waves, and Andrew Schoultz.
The exhibition is open to all media. Entry fee is $15 for up to 2 artworks, with a maximum of 6 total images. For each artwork, you may upload up to 2 additional detail images, video, or audio files. Submissions are made through CallForEntry.org. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to the Fine Arts Gallery at San Francisco State University, Fine Arts Building, Room 238, or shipped at the artist's expense. Work delivery dates are January 22-25, 2019. The exhibition opening reception is February 22, 2019, 1-3pm. De-installation and pick-up occur on April 5, 2019, beginning at 9am. Artists who do not retrieve their work will be charged a storage fee of $1.00 per day; works remaining after 30 days become the property of SF State Fine Arts Gallery.
Jurors are Sharon E. Bliss (Director, SFSU Fine Arts Gallery), Kevin B. Chen (independent curator and SFSU adjunct faculty), and students of ART619, SFSU's Exhibition Design class. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on October 22, 2018. All inquiries regarding the sale of work will be forwarded directly to the artist; the Fine Arts Gallery does not sell work or take a percentage of sales.
