Building Community Energy with Public Art

PARC seeks permanent sculpture and public artwork for downtown Rawlins that unites the community and reflects the region's unique character shaped by its landscape and history of travel. The artwork should address major themes such as Intersections, The Old West, Cowboys, Migrations, and/or Wind, and engage the community of Rawlins.

The permanent artwork will be placed outdoors in downtown Rawlins with both pedestrian and motorized traffic. It should require little-to-no maintenance or upkeep. All artists experienced with three-dimensional public art are welcome to apply with no regional boundaries. The budget available for this project is $18,000.00, which supports design (including refinement based on stakeholder input), fabrication, materials, engineering review, shipping, contract labor, installation, insurance, travel expenses, final documentation, and incidental expenses.

PARC will select up to three artists as finalists, each receiving a $300 stipend to submit a conceptual design. From these three finalists, one project will be chosen and a project contract presented to the selected artist. Work sample requirements: 1-6 images. Application deadline: October 31, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Timeline includes finalist selection by November 15, 2013, final project proposal presentations by January 15, 2013, artist selection by February 15, 2013, and project installation by July 1, 2014.
