Build

This exhibition focuses on design, structure, and the process of building, including both functional and whimsical works. Both man-made and organic structures may be featured. No materials subject to deterioration within a 30-day window will be accepted. Possible materials include wood, metal, wire, fabric, floss, and hard trash. There are no size restrictions, though space will be a consideration. The gallery includes window space, wall space, open rafters, painted cement flooring, and a rooftop area 20 feet above ground. Both 2-D and 3-D work will be considered. All US artists and artist teams are welcome to apply.

Entry fee is $35.00 for 2 images, with an additional $10.00 media fee for each additional image up to 4 total. All exhibited work must be for sale. A 40% commission will be taken on all works sold during the exhibition or within 30 days as a direct result of the exhibition. Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing. Unsold works will be returned via artist-supplied pre-paid label two to four weeks after the exhibition closes. All entries must be original work created by the submitting artist. No prints or giclées are accepted. All work must be clean, securely wired, and ready to hang. Artists are responsible for shipping or delivering accepted artwork by September 30 (shipped) or October 3 (hand-delivered). Artwork must be picked up by appointment on October 29 or return-shipped with a supplied pre-paid label.

The Best of Show award is $500. Juror Murray Whisnant, FAIA, is a Charlotte-based modernist architect and designer. The opening reception is Friday, October 7, 6:00-9:00 PM. The exhibition closes Saturday, October 29. Ciel Gallery is located in the South End Arts District of Charlotte and is open Tuesday-Saturday 11:00 AM-6:00 PM.
