Buffalo Creek Art Center Residency

Buffalo Creek Art Center is a nonprofit educational 501(c)(3) corporation offering summer artist residencies for three-dimensional artists working in metal, wood, ceramic, and multi-media with an emphasis on aesthetics and craftsmanship. Beginning in summer 2017, the program offers two 10-week sessions accommodating 4 artists each. Artists receive free room and work space with access to all equipment.

The 25-acre property includes a 3,000 square foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch house where artists will be housed, with each artist having their own bedroom. Common areas include a kitchen, living room, and outdoor patio with Internet access, cable TV, and laundry facilities. Artists are responsible for their own meals and have access to the entire property, which features fruit orchards, a vineyard, 8 ponds, hiking trails, a miniature train station, and a work-in-progress sculpture park.

The 4,000 square foot metal shop is fully equipped with MIG, TIG, and oxy-acetylene welders, plasma cutter, hydraulic lifts, compressed air, benches, hand tools, 20-foot ceilings, and a telehandler fork lift for moving large sculptures. An additional 3,500 square foot woodworking shop is available 20 minutes from the ranch. Ceramic equipment will be purchased as necessary. Vehicles are available for local errands. The 1,000 square foot indoor Train Station Art Gallery and 500 square feet of outdoor covered space are available for artists to exhibit work. Periodic public art shows are planned.

Buffalo Creek Art Center is located in Gardnerville, Nevada, at the base of Jobs Peak in the Sierra Nevada, a few miles from the California border. It is 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe, one hour from Reno/Tahoe International Airport, 20 minutes from Carson City, and 10 minutes from downtown Gardnerville. Airport transportation can be provided if necessary. Applicants must submit 10-20 images of their work.
