About This Call
The Buffalo Bills Art Program at New Highmark Stadium seeks to commission a professional visual artist or artist team to create a large-scale, custom commissioned permanent sculpture featuring a herd of American Bison. The artwork will be thematic, public-facing, and part of the permanent collection at the stadium.
The sculpture will be located in the exterior "Family Circle" area of New Highmark Stadium grounds in Orchard Park, New York. This is an accessible, communal space where family, friends, and fans can gather, take photos, and engage with public art. The Family Circle serves as the ceremonial front door to the stadium with the highest volume of spectators. The setting includes a raised concrete plinth to elevate the sculptures, exposed boulders and cobbles on the ground plane, tall ornamental grasses in the background, and concrete seat walls surrounding the space.
The commission budget is up to $5,000,000 (all inclusive), covering design fees, engineering, fabrication, materials, labor, permits, licenses, lighting, shipping, delivery, and installation. The public art should reflect the city's diverse demographics, team and fan engagement, and be welcoming to travelers of all backgrounds. Submissions must include an artist statement/team bio and a letter of interest (up to 1 page) describing your interest in the project and experience with public art design, fabrication, and project collaboration. Work samples should include 5-10 images, 0-2 audio files, and 0-3 video files (5-15 total samples). The application deadline is April 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Shortlisted artists will be notified by May 2024.
