About This Call
The Arts Council of Brazos Valley, in cooperation with the City of Bryan and Downtown Bryan Association, is seeking proposals from individual artists or groups of artists for an art installation at Artfill, an outdoor sculpture located at the north end of Historic Downtown Bryan, Texas.
Artfill is comprised of four steel-framed cubes situated on a concrete pad. Two of the cubes will house steel sculpture "Arco de Luna" through September 2015. This call seeks to fill the remaining two cubes with a sculptural installation for one year beginning mid-March 2015. The two cubes can be moved throughout the site and used as the structure or backdrop for a second sculpture. Each cube measures 10'3"x10'3"x10'3" and is made of 3-inch square steel tubing. Artists may not permanently affix their work to the cubes, but may use brackets or clamps as necessary. As the project will remain outdoors for one year, weather-resistant materials are required. The installation cannot shed any components or contain materials that will break down over time. There is no electricity at the site, but proposals may incorporate solar-powered lights if necessary.
The selected artist or group will receive a $4,000 stipend and is responsible for fabrication, installation, maintenance throughout the year, and de-installation of the project. Submission requirements include 1-2 scale renderings of proposed work, 4-5 images of previous public art/installation pieces or sculpture, a description of the proposed piece or letter of interest, CV/resume, and 3 professional references. The selection committee will consider suitability for the space and character of Downtown Bryan, use of materials and maintenance, overall aesthetic appeal, and creativity. Entry fee is $25.00. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
