About This Call

The Bryan Artist in Residence program offers one selected artist the opportunity to live and work in a newly-built Kasparov Loft, generously donated by BCS Modern. The residency term is approximately one year. The selected artist will live in a 750 square foot apartment with a downstairs work/retail area. Housing includes utilities (water, electricity, and internet). The artist will receive a $3,000 stipend from The Arts Council to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases, paid in $250 monthly installments over the year.

Any artist is eligible to apply and must concentrate in one of the following areas: 2-D Mixed Media, 3-D Mixed Media, Ceramics, Digital Media, Drawing, Fiber arts, Literature, Music, Painting, Poetry, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Applicants must be available to live in Bryan for the entire one-year term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States for the entire residency period. Preference will be given to sculpture/3D artists or those who present a concept for filling two of the cubes in the ArtFill installation site in Downtown Bryan. All applicants must be able to pass a background check.

The artist is responsible for supplying their own materials, equipment, food, transportation, and all other bills. The living space is unfurnished and the artist must bring all necessary furniture and household items. The residency does not furnish equipment such as kilns, darkrooms, forges, or power tools. The artist must be the sole occupant of their residency location with no spouses, partners, or long-term guests allowed (pets permitted at the discretion of BCS Modern). Artists may hold a part-time job during the residency, not to exceed 20 hours per week. The artist will be expected to participate in monthly First Friday and Third Thursday events in Downtown Bryan and host at least one new show of their work each quarter on-site. Artists must maintain a Facebook page or other social media, posting at least once a week. Any pieces sold through The Arts Council or out of the retail/work space will have a 70/30 commission split, with 70% going to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council. Applications are due July 31, 2018 through callforentry.org. Finalists will be selected for a Skype interview. Final decisions will be made in mid-August 2018, with a projected move-in date of late September 2018. Entry fee: $25.00.
