About This Call
The Bryan Artist in Residence program offers one selected artist the opportunity to live and work in a newly-built Kasparov Loft, generously donated by BCS Modern. The residency term is approximately one year. The selected artist will live in a 750 square foot apartment with a downstairs work/retail area. Housing includes utilities (water, electricity, and internet). The artist will receive a $3,000 stipend from The Arts Council, paid in full at the beginning of the residency, to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases.
Any artist is eligible to apply, including those working in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, ceramics, digital media, drawing, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Applicants must be available to live in Bryan for the entire one-year term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States for the duration of the program. All participating artists must be able to pass a background check.
The artist is responsible for supplying their own materials, equipment, food, transportation, and all other bills. The living space is unfurnished, and the residency does not furnish equipment such as kilns, darkrooms, forges, or power tools. The artist must be the sole occupant; no spouses, partners, or long-term guests are allowed, though pets may be permitted at BCS Modern's discretion. Artists may hold a part-time job during the residency, not to exceed 20 hours per week. The artist is expected to participate in monthly First Friday and Third Thursday events in Downtown Bryan, host at least one new show of their work each quarter on-site, and maintain a Facebook page or other social media with at least one post per week. Any pieces sold through The Arts Council or from the retail/work space will have a 70/30 commission split, with 70% going to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council. Applications are due March 1, 2020 through callforentry.org. Final decisions will be made by April 1, 2020, with a projected move-in date of mid-May 2020. The entry fee is $20.00. Applicants must submit 1-6 images of their work.
