About This Call
The Bryan Artist in Residence program offers one selected artist the opportunity to live and work in a 1,140 square foot apartment located in Downtown Bryan, generously donated by BCS Modern. The residency term is approximately one year, from August 2022 to July 2023. Housing includes utilities (water, electricity, and internet). The selected artist will receive a $3,000 stipend from The Arts Council, paid in full at the beginning of the residency, to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases.
Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D Mixed Media, 3-D Mixed Media, Ceramics, Digital Media, Drawing, Fiber arts, Literature, Music, Painting, Poetry, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Applicants must be available to live in Bryan for the entire one-year term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States for the duration of the program. All applicants must pass a background check.
The artist is responsible for supplying their own materials, equipment, food, and all other bills beyond utilities. The living space is unfurnished, and the artist must bring necessary furniture and household items. The residency does not provide equipment such as kilns, darkrooms, forges, or power tools. The artist must be the sole occupant; no spouses, partners, long-term guests, or pets are allowed. Artists may hold a part-time job (no more than 20 hours per week) during the residency. The Arts Council will provide PR opportunities including radio interviews, promotion at events, and inclusion in newsletters. Any artwork sold through Arts Council-organized events or from the workspace will be subject to a 70/30 commission split (70% to artist, 30% to The Arts Council). Entry fee: $25.00. Work sample requirements: 3-6 images, 0-3 audio files, 0-3 video files (3-12 total samples).
