About This Call
The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art is accepting submissions for its 45th International Art Show. All artists 17 and older are welcome to submit original works. The entry deadline is February 15, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The entry fee is $40 for up to 3 artworks, which are non-refundable.
Accepted categories include: Painting (oil and acrylic), Pastel, Drawing (pen & ink, pencil, colored pencil, charcoal), Water Media (watercolor, gouache, acrylic under glass), Mixed Media (including collage), Printmaking (etching, woodcuts, monograph, lithograph, aquatint), 3D Sculpture (relief, in the round, jewelry, pottery), Photography, and Digital Media (including enhanced photography). All wall art must be framed with d-rings or wire and ready for hanging. Three-dimensional works must be stable and ready for presentation. All art must be for sale; the BMFA will require 30% of the sale price for any direct sales resulting from the exhibition.
The exhibition runs March 22 - April 5, 2017. Total prizes of $4,500 are available, including Best of Show ($1,500), Clara Ely Award ($500 for water media, oils, and acrylic), Octavia Arneson Award ($500 for water media), Mayor's Award (Commemorative Plate), First Place in each of nine categories ($150), Second Place ($50), Third Place ($25), and Honorable Mentions (Ribbons). Jurors are Cesar Martinez (San Antonio, TX), Angel Cabrales (El Paso, TX), and Annie Moye (Atlanta, Georgia). Acceptance notifications will be sent February 16-22, 2017. The opening reception is March 22 at 6pm, with a complimentary artist breakfast on March 23 at 10am.
