About This Call

The Broward Cultural Council Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission a professional artist or team of artists to create a functionally-integrated public artwork for pedestrian bridges connecting Terminals 2, 3, and 4 to the Palm Parking Garage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The project sites are four pedestrian bridges, each measuring approximately 130 feet in length, that cross over the airport's loop roadway and create a visual gateway to the terminals. The selected artist or team must create an original functionally-integrated design that enhances the visual appearance of the bridges while conveying a sense of place. The artwork should establish a repetitive experience as people travel by car within the terminal loop and provide visual interest for people waiting for transportation, moving in vehicles, and crossing the bridges. Opportunities include artistic treatment of roofs, cross members, ceiling, side panels, and lighting to create visual interest at night, with special emphasis on the exterior of the bridges. The total project budget is $400,000, which includes all costs: installation, insurance, proposals, travel, sales tax, and transportation.

Artists must work closely with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport staff and project consultant teams, and must consider design and construction documents, the airport's master plan and signage criteria, and ADA Accessibility Standards. The project is open to all professional artists who can work effectively within an aggressive timeline and collaborate with the architect of record, general contractor, and multiple governmental and community groups. The commissioned artist may be required to work with a pre-qualified artist from the Allied Artists Program roster. Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org and include a letter of interest, professional résumé, 10 digital images of recent work, and an annotated image list. Finalists will be paid a $2,000 honorarium for proposal development and presentation expenses. Contact: Christina Roldan, (954) 357-8542, [email protected].
