About This Call
The Broward Cultural Division's Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission one or two artists or artist teams to design, build and install functionally integrated public art projects for two new social services facilities: the Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC) and the Nancy J. Cotterman Center (NJCC). Both facilities will be co-located on a four-acre site in Fort Lauderdale between Southwest Third and Fourth Avenues and Southwest 27 and 28 Streets. BARC will house a 50-bed detoxification unit, counseling services and related functions for adults struggling with substance abuse, including treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma and mental health disorders. NJCC will provide counseling services for victims of sexual assault and child abuse crimes. Both facilities will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Artists shall design, build and install functionally integrated interior or exterior artwork for one or both facilities. Artwork opportunities include durable, low-maintenance enhancements to building interiors, exterior courtyards and therapeutic gardens. Specific locations will be determined through collaboration with the project team and agency during design meetings after artist selection. Artwork should be spatially and functionally integrated to the site. Living plant material is not encouraged as a component of the design proposal. The artwork is intended to create welcoming and uplifting environments that reduce anxiety and pain, promote mental and emotional healing, reduce stress and improve the care experience.
Eligibility: Open to professional artists residing in the United States who have completed a minimum of five public art projects budgeted at $100,000 or more. Artists must be able to commit intensive time to the project during spring 2013 for collaboration with the design team. The total budget for BARC is not to exceed $172,300, and for NJCC is not to exceed $78,100. Budgets will be divided between Phase 1 Design and Phase 2 Fabrication agreements, including research, design, permits, fabrication, delivery, installation, insurance, travel and applicable taxes. Artist Selection: February/March 2013. Conceptual Design Proposal Presentation: June 2013. Board Approval: August 2013. Artwork Completion and Installation: June 2015.
Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org and include: letter of interest, professional résumé with public art commissions and contact information, 10 digital images of completed public art projects, annotated image list, and list of minimum five professional references with contact information.
