About This Call

Art for Awhile is an art on loan program created by the Public Art Committee and approved by the Broomfield City Council in 2009. The program affords artists increased public exposure and the opportunity to sell their work. The 2015 Art for Awhile Sculpture Project aims to strengthen community identity and enhance the sense of place and community pride for people who live and work in the City and County of Broomfield.

Nine sculptures will be selected for installation at three landmark locations: 1STBANK Center (three sculptures on the main promenade on black powder coated steel pedestals measuring 48" high and 36" square), Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library and Broomfield Auditorium (three sculptures on the west side lawn on hexagonal concrete pads measuring 12" high and 36" diameter), and North Metro Fire Rescue District Headquarters (three sculptures in the sculpture garden at the northwest entrance on hexagonal concrete pads measuring 12" high and 36" diameter). Sculptures will be installed between October 20-31, 2014, and remain on display until October 12, 2015. The artist is responsible for arranging transportation, installation, and de-installation, and must provide tools and equipment needed. Sculptures will be installed outside and exposed to the elements, including harsh sun, high winds, wide temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Maximum weight must not exceed 1,000 pounds. Recommended minimum height is 3 feet. Sculptures must be safe for public interaction, especially with children, and fragile, vulnerable, or inappropriate work will not be considered.

The artist honorarium is $750 for each sculpture selected for display. The Public Art Committee will retain a 20% commission on sculptures sold to support the public art program. Plaques will be provided for each piece stating the artist, materials, price, and contact information for purchase. A $1,000 cash award will be given to one artist chosen by the Broomfield community as "Broomfield's Choice." Application deadline is July 20, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be selected and notified the week of August 18, 2014. Up to 3 applications are allowed per artist. Submit one image with your application; additional images may be submitted via Dropbox folder shared with Cheryl German at [email protected]. Images must be named with artist's last name underscore sculpture name (artistlastname_sculpturename.jpg).
