About This Call

Art for Awhile is an art on loan program created by the Broomfield Public Art Committee and approved by the Broomfield City Council in 2009. Participating artists are chosen to display their art and offer it for sale for one year, providing increased public exposure and the opportunity to sell their work. Nine sculptures will be selected for installation at three landmark locations throughout the community: 1STBANK Center (three sculptures on the main promenade), Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library and Broomfield Auditorium (three sculptures on the west side lawn), and North Metro Fire Rescue District Headquarters (three sculptures in the sculpture garden at the northwest entrance).

Sculptures must be available for delivery and installation by October 28, 2013, and will remain on display until October 20, 2014. Each applicant may submit up to three sculptures for consideration. Sculptures must be a minimum of 3 feet in any direction, sized to allow for proper installation and proportion on existing pads and pedestals, and must not exceed 1,000 pounds. All sculptures will be installed outside and exposed to the elements, including harsh sun, high winds, temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Fragile, vulnerable, or inappropriate work will not be considered. Sculptures must be safe for public interaction, especially with children.

Selected artists will receive a $750 honorarium for each sculpture displayed. The Public Art Committee will retain a 20% commission on any piece sold. Plaques will be provided for each piece stating artist, materials, price, and contact information. One artist will be chosen by the public as "Broomfield's Choice" and will receive a $1,000 cash award. Artists will be selected and notified the week of September 16, 2013. By submitting a proposal, the artist agrees to the terms of acceptance in the 2014 Art for Awhile Sculpture Project.
